God did not abandon Elijah during his hiding time. He cared for his needs by providing both natural and supernatural blessings. When he was in Kerith Ravine, ravens brought him food, and he drank from the brook. Later, when God directed him to Zarephath, God supernaturally multiplied the meager pantry of a widow to provide his daily bread.
Elijah;s hiding place was not a permanent seclusion. He did not spend the rest of his years as a wandering hermit. When God had finished preparing Elijah, He sent him on to an even greater level of service.
God does not call us into His work to fail. He wants us to succeed, and sometimes that means being groomed into becoming a patient, obedient servant. God can work through anyone who has a willing heart, but sometimes we need to be hidden for a while in order to reach that point.
If you are in a hiding place right now, you may feel frustrated, confused, and even purposeless. Even in the midst of your turmoil, God is working out His purpose through you. He is preparing you for the next step so that you may be an even more effective servant.
Prayer: God, as I go through this time, I pray that You would show me what You are preparing me for. Show me areas where I need to grow. Help me to see what You want to teach me in my hiding place. Amen.
God ever waits to be gracious to all that come to him by faith in Christ,
and happy are those who wait for him. |
