MAYBE I SHOULD, OR MAYBE NOTBy Pastor Dorsey E. Marshall Jr.
"And they went forth, and preached everywhere,
the Lord working with them,
and confirming the word with signs following." Mark 16:20
Seize the opportunity wherever you are. Have you ever been at a place where you thought you should tell someone about God? There is a part of you that is consumed with passion and desire to share your faith. Then, something, or someone comes along and talks you out of it. That "someone" is you. "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." It is the flesh that wars inside you, and convinces you that it is not of God. Think about this with some spiritual "common sense." Why would God not want you to share your faith and His love with someone who is in desperate need of Him?
Because of what God has done in our lives, we ought to share Him everywhere we go. It is ridiculous for us to be "closet Christians." We have gotten so professional, and have this notion that only preachers should be sharing this Good News. While they should, it is also our privilege and responsibility to tell what God has done in our lives. The places and people where we can go are not always available to preachers. We should take the pulpit to the lunchroom, coffee bars, gas stations, doctor's offices, Wal-Mart, Kmart, or wherever we shop. We may pray over our lunch and give God thanks. But, how about sharing the goodness of the Lord with the person sitting next to us? He or she just might need what we have.
My favorite pulpit is at the coffee bar where I go everyday. When I walk in they are eager to hear about Jesus. They know I am saved, filled with Holy Spirit, and they know I love and care for each of them. They know I will pray for them at any time for their needs. Needy people come into my insurance office with prayer requests. I pray for them and God meets their needs. One customer even came in to ask prayer for her daughter who was diagnosed with cancer. God healed her. Another lady came into my office asking for help, gave her heart to Jesus, and today is in heaven with Him.
When you get the opportunity to tell somebody about the power of God's Word, take it. That might be the difference between heaven and hell for them.
LET US PRAY: "Father, give me a holy boldness to be a faithful witness of Your grace, mercy, and love, In Jesus' Name, Amen!"
"God is the only one who can make the valley of trouble a door of hope."
