RUN FOR COVER
By Pastor Dorsey E. Marshall Jr.
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High,
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Psalm 9:1
Sometimes, life can be slippery, stressful, and full of obstacles. But Jesus is our Rock, our Fortress, and our Deliverer. At times, we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place. Occasionally, life deals us a hard blow. We wonder how we will ever survive when the going gets tough. Yet, we continue and never accept defeat.
David, the shepherd boy, had killed a lion, a bear, and a giant. We sense the invincibility of youth in David's life. I'm sure David felt, "Man, this is too easy; I've got it made. If anything comes my way, I'll just blow it away." But as David grew, he discovered life was a bit different. David's enemies taught him his strengths, limitations, and God's character. Age and experience should make us wiser. It is this same man who said, "I have been young, and now am old; yet, have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread," Psalm 37:25.
Life has a way of prying loose the things we try to grasp. Things in life tend to become unstable. Things will degenerate. Just when you think you have a grip, all hell breaks loose. It's like carrying a stick of dynamite around in your pocket. The reality of a storm will make you realize just how much you need an anchor on the sea of life. It is said, "Smooth seas don't make skilled sailors." If you aren't anchored, you drift. Then, if you're anchored to the wrong thing, you drift with it.
No one can stand the constant stresses of life alone. Life is much like ocean waves. If you get knocked down, they don't stop to let you get your breath. They keep pounding. Have you ever felt continuously pounded by one wave after another? We all need a "safe place" to hide. Often, we get in so deep we feel we cannot get out. Knowing how to get into trouble comes naturally. The more we practice, the better we get at it. We need a rescue. "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord . . . ," Psalm 121:1. Isn't it time to wise up? Let's be careful where we hang out.
LET US PRAY: "Father, I run to You as my shelter in the storm. Save me and preserve me as my enemies try to overrun me, In Jesus' Name, Amen!"
"The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety."
