| Weak Faith By Michael Youssef, Ph.D. "A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper." (Proverbs 28:25) |
| When Abraham leaves Egypt in Genesis 13, he returns physically and spiritually to the place where God had originally called him. Yet Abraham once again faces a challenge in the middle of his obedience. Abraham's nephew, Lot, allowed his greed and self-centeredness to disrupt both his relationship with Abraham and with God. Because Abraham trusted in God's promised blessings, he refused to quarrel over resources with Lot. We read in Scripture: "So Abram said to Lot, 'Let's not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. Is not the whole land before you? Let's part company. If you go to the left, I'll go to the right; if you go to the right, I'll go to the left'" (Genesis 13:8-9). Lot allowed selfish ambition to weaken his faith and, in his weakness, he became more influenced by the sinfulness of his new neighbors in Sodom and Gomorrah than by God's commandments. Prayer: God, help me not to be like Lot who allowed greed and self-centeredness to weaken his faith and disrupt his walk. Amen. |
